FLUSH BUFFERS in v16

4D Tech mailing list
Hi All,

Is there a replacement for FLUSH BUFFERS v16 or is it gone for good.

Cheers

Jörg:

IIRC, 4D announced at the last Summit that the command was no longer needed
because of the new cache management code.

Hi Caroline,
I sincerely support renaming commands, but this thread (IMHO and again) highlights some lacks in documentation:

• no "search by command number" in the doc - I miss that very often (not to say every day)

• I regret that the "command of the same chapter share the same prefix" rule has not been adopted for "cache", it's a great help with "predictive" input. Each command of this chapter contains that word, only 'cache info' starts with  :-(

• the "command history" _is_ in the livedoc:
<http://livedoc.4d.com/4D-Language-Reference-16-R3/Cache-Management/FLUSH-CACHE.301-3218950.en.html>
Where are links to livedoc?

Sorry for my mistake. I thought it had been retired along with the
"priority sliders"

Thanks for the correction, Caroline.

Since v11 I've always read or heard about FLUSH BUFFERS "don't use, let 4d do", but Olivier Deschanels wrote recently that FLUSH CACHE could change our point of view. Expecting 4d world tour in Lyon to learn more.

Deploying with R release?

4D Tech mailing list
In reply to this post by 4D Tech mailing list
v16 R2 has a feature that I want to include in an upgrade from v15 to v16. I am pondering the consequences of deploying an R release...

1. It will not include any bug fixes since v16.0
       16R2 Modified date = 3/15/17
       16 .1  Modified date = 4/19/17
       16.1 hf1 Modified date = 5/30/17

2. R2 is not exactly backwards compatible with 16.1 due to changes in the language. So far I have found this true in the Listbox and Object themes.

3. I am not entirely convinced that new features in the R2 release will in fact see the light of day in 16.2.

Welcome any comments.

John

Re: Deploying with R release?

4D Tech mailing list
John,

No 'r' features will be included in a dot release until 17.0.

No bug fixes will be made to 16r2, its frozen in time now. However bug fixes will be incorporated into 16r3 which is nearly final now and r4, r5.

16r6 is of course 17.0.

If you go down the r path, and I see no reason why you shouldn't, you are committing yourself to continuing through the r releases as the way of obtaining bug fixes.

Regards,

Wayne
